Last Friday, I shadowed Dr. Laura Moore in the OR and got to see a rotator cuff repair and a reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Afterwards, I went to see the set up of ultrasound transducers for a clinical trial to examine patellar tendons used for ACL reconstructions and got to have my own tendon ultrasounded. On Monday, I got to shadow Dr. Anil Ranawat in the OR. The first surgery was a high tibial osteotomy with an allograft, an ACL revision using the contralateral patellar tendon, and arthroscopic chloroplasty and osteochodral allograft. The next was a knee debridement, with hardware removal, loose body removal, and ostochondral allograft. The last surgery was a repair if proximal hamstring with a sciatic neurolysis. On Tuesday, I shadowed Dr. Rodeo in the OR and got to see a notch plasty with a menisctomy and acl debridement and the irrigation and debridement after multiple ligament reconstruction. Afterwards Dr. Rodeo asked Dr. Taylor if i could shadow him and i got to see an anatomical shoulder arthroplasty and two reverse shoulder arthroplasties. On Wednesday, I started planning out when I will be performing RNA isolations for the tendon experiments conducted in the Rodeo laba and did some more research into the pathways of the unregulated RNA from the data they have given me. On Thursday, I shadowed Dr. Gulatto in the OR and saw three reverse shoulder arthroplasties. It has been very exciting to be in the OR, meet different people, see how the ORs are run, and get to see the different techniques of the different surgeons. I am working on planning out the research of my shadowing experiences and working of the research for the lab.
