Week 1 has been a blur! It seems that both daily life and research follow NY's maxim of hustle bustle. Dr. Rodeo's lab is running a number of research projects at full throttle. I've begun fleshing out my research project for the summer as Dr. Hirotaka introduced me to the collagenase model of tendinopathy, in which progressive tendon degradation is modeled through direct injection of collagen enzymes above the patellar tendon. I will be staining tendon sections from this model to correlate histologic markers with changes in tendon morphology detected via ultrasound, aiming to solidify ultrasound as a diagnostic tool for early tendinopathy diagnosis. I've completed all my Weill and HSS trainings, while learning paraffin embedding and microtome sectioning to begin working through Dr. Hirotaka's samples. I'm looking forward to next week, in which I will be integrated into the clinical schedule alongside research.
