This week I spent some time in the clinic, mostly doing post-operative visits for patients that had undergone procedures from earlier in the summer. In the OR I saw some skin grafts be placed, a hernia repair, and a bilateral mammoplasty. These procedures were interesting, since we were able to collect some samples of skin, adipose, and breast tissue, for Dr. Spector's patient-derived biobank. These samples will be used for a variety of experiments in his lab. I was able to assist with adipocyte and stromal vascular fraction isolation from these samples, which will be great protocols to take back to my lab after the end of the clinical immersion program. We also continued the protocol for isolating collagen from rat tails, and I continued working on immunofluorescent imaging of adipose.
