This week I was working with Dr. Tamatha Fenster, who specializes in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery. On day 1, I observed a uterine fibroid removal surgery which was very different from what I had expected. The surgery was conducted laparoscopically to try and "shave off" the fibroid so that it stops causing issues. While I had expected the fibroid to look more like a mass of cells, it looked sort of like a ball of cotton. I also discussed my research project with Dr. Fenster which is the create a virtual reality training simulation for c-hysterectomy. On days 2-5, I spent my time reading up on the literature and creating a Python model for this. I also completed the required trainings and attended Dr. Prince's imaging lecture on Friday.
