This week I completed online trainings that will allow me to conduct active lab work in the following weeks and a hands-on microtome training for potential histological analysis work. Additionally, I attended a lab meeting to learn about the background and variety of projects that are currently being conducted in the lab. Afterwards, I met with the two people I will be working under this summer to discuss my project. They gave me RNA Seq data to go through and a list of papers to read to get a better background on the project. I began going through the data to get a better understanding of how it was presented in the report and found some articles and videos to gain a better understanding of how to analyze RNA Seq data, as I have never done it before. I also attended a biomechanics meeting where I got to listen to Joe Lipman discuss the process of designing orthopedic devices and his contributions. I found the most interesting device he talked about was for an elbow replacement, which I had never heard of before. Finally, I attended an amazing lecture by Dr. Prince about the process of analyzing medical images. I am excited for the next weeks were I will get to build my relations with Dr. Rodeo's lab and begin planning orthopedic surgery observations.
