This week started off strong in the Roth Lab. Day 1 I learned how to split B cells and then shadowed some tumor measurements and injections on mice. I never seen animal work before so it was cool seeing the scruffing procedure and how adept the student was with the injections. The next day, I attended the Pediatrics Research Day. There were several interesting posters and presentations covering topics as disparate as AI LLM for chart summaries, to novel treatments for lymphoma. After one of the sessions, I had a conversation about the immersion program with Dr. Kuhn, the chief of pediatric cardiology. It might be worth reaching out to him about any opportunities to observe some surgeries. On Thursday, I saw some tumor and spleen harvesting on the mice. I also had my first day in the clinic with Dr. Chandwani. One of the patients is likely going to be getting the whipple procedure done in July so I’m looking forward to observing that operation. This Friday, I’m attending the health disparities in Hematologic Malignancies symposium.
